About

Welcome to the Canniesburn Blog.

Canniesburn is an area of Bearsden, Glasgow in Scotland. In the early 1900′s it was the home of the 9 hole Canniesburn Golf Course. In 1924 the club moved to an eighteen hole course at Windyhills. Some time after this Canniesburn Hospital was built on the site. It was opened in 1938 and was originally used for convalescence. In 1967 the world renowned plastic surgery unit opened .

The hospital was surrounded by fields with horses. Around 1990 (I think!) the fields were sold to property developers Miller Homes and the first houses and flats were built at Canniesburn. The streets are named  Fernlea, Elderbank and and Newmonthill.

In 2003 Canniesburn Hospital came to end of its useful life. It was then bought by Cala Homes and the original buildings were converted into luxury flats. New flats and houses were also built on the site.

I am a resident of the Canniesburn who is interested in web development. I have set up this blog out of interest.

My hope is that the blog will be used by the residents of Canniesburn to advertise local events and also discuss any topics related to life on the estate a. Hopefully we can use it to make Canniesburn an even better place to stay!
